Let’s Be a Bit Imperfect Today

imperfection is fineI usually workout in silence, as in no music or podcasts. I recently changed my routine and plugged into a podcast during my workout. Talk about getting both a physical and mental workout! I had selected Brene Brown’s series, “The Gifts of Imperfection.” I am hooked on the idea of being imperfect and look forward to listening to the rest of the series as it unfolds.

So far I have learned: “perfectionism is a process addiction … imperfections are not inadequacies … imperfections are reminders we are all in this together.”

Are you a process addict? I am, unknowingly. I prefer the gentler word “routines;” they give me order and peace. The addict part is the invisible fork in the road of choices.

For example, do you have an evening routine that you follow, filled with tasks that you feel you must do before turning in? I do. How deep is this must do mindset?

How long do you spend writing and reviewing your Linked In posts for accuracy? For that matter, how long to you spend writing and reviewing anything? The written word process allows you to review  endlessly, unlike the immediate imperfections of our speech.

With only a precious 168 hours in a week, I have come to realize my must do mindset is a time waster if I fail to recognize the fork in the road of choices. Keep it in perspective. For example, what makes me feel I must empty that dishwasher before turning in?

I am going to be a bit imperfect today, how about you?
